Airbags are among the most crucial safety mechanisms that can be found in every vehicle, but faulty Takata airbags have put millions of lives around the globe at risk. According to NHTSA, Takata airbags that can explode in a crash have caused at least 23 deaths and 300 injuries worldwide. Tens of millions of vehicles containing Takata airbags have been recalled—comprising the largest automotive recall in history—but millions more remain on the road with dangerous airbags intact.

Because Takata airbags remain a serious threat to public safety, the Center for Auto Safety has demanded renewed federal oversight on the issue. “Installing defective, dangerous airbags was bad enough. This defective, disorganized, and dysfunctional recall makes a tragic condition even worse. It is long past time for Congress to demand these companies immediately locate and replace every airbag in every car that needs repair… It is unconscionable that millions of consumers are left in the dark about whether they take their lives in their hands with each commute because of a ticking time bomb in their dashboard,” said Jason Levine, Executive Director of the Center for Auto Safety.

Check your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to see if your vehicle is affected.
